Here is an interesting article about the dangers of plastic bag. This article will really make you think twice about using plastic bags!

Go hybrid!

Inspired by Malaysia "Sunday Star, 14 September 2008 pg 29"

Currently most of the vehicles in the world are petrol based. The downside to this is that the vehicle owner is paying more for petrol due to the increase in oil prices. Another downside is that we are polluting the environment while we are using our vehicles. Majority of the vehicles produce higher emissions as we drive our cars.

However, well known car manufacturers around the world have begun to manufacture hybrid vehicles. Some of the car manufacturers involved are Toyota, Honda and Ford. Hybrid cars is much better compared to petrol based car as hybrid car provide better fuel economy and produce lower emissions as well. Well, looking at the possibility of global warming now, hybrid cars will be the new future in motoring soon!

Some of the hybrid vehicles produced by various car manufacturers are

New Hope for Automobiles!

I just receive an email about an automobile that doesn't use petrol, diesel or natural gas. Hard to believe at first for me! However, the type of automobile that doesn't emit carbon from utilizing petrol, diesel and natural gas is a dream come true for the environment.

It is called Air-Car and it is going to be introduced by Tata Motors based in India.

We will have to see how this concept will be implemented in the future. Here are the details of the car. Other car companies should follow this aggressive concept as well.

Quote from my email:
The Air Car, called the MiniCAT could cost around Rs. 3,50,000 ($ 8177) in India and would have a range of around 300 km between refuels. The cost of a refill would be about Rs. 85 ($ 2). Tata motors already launched the world's cheapest car, Tata Nano priced famously at One lakh Rupees by October.

The MiniCAT which is a simple, light urban car, with a tubular chassis that is glued not welded and a body of fiberglass powered by compressed air. Microcontrollers are used in every device in the car, so one tiny radio transmitter sends instructions to the lights, indicators etc. There are no keys - just an access card which can be read by the car from Your pocket. According to the designers, it costs less than 50 rupees per 100Km (about a tenth that of a petrol car). Its mileage is about double That of the most advanced electric car (200 to 300 km or 10 hours of Driving), a factor which makes a perfect choice in cities where the 80% of Motorists drive at less than 60Km. The car has a top speed of 105 kmph. Refilling the car will, once the market develops, take place at adapted petrol stations to administer compressed air. In two or three minutes, and at a cost of approximately 100 rupees, the car will be ready to go another 200-300 kilometers.

As a viable alternative, the car carries a small compressor which can be connected to the mains (220V or 380V) and refill the tank in 3-4 hours. Due to the absence of combustion and, consequently, of residues, changing the oil (1 litre of vegetable oil) is necessary only every 50,000Km. The temperature of the clean air expelled by the exhaust pipe is between 0-15 degrees below zero, which makes it suitable for use by the internal air conditioning system with no need for gases or loss of power.

2. I will use less plastic bag whenever necessary

The 11th Hour

Official web site

This movie is about environmentalism and is presented by Leonardo Dicaprio.

The description of this film below is quoted from Wikipedia:

"With contributions from over 50 of the world's most prominent thinkers and activists, including former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, physicist Stephen Hawking, Nobel Prize winner Wangari Maathai, and journalist Paul Hawken, the film documents the grave problems facing the planet's life systems. Global warming, deforestation, mass species extinction, and depletion of the oceans' habitats are all addressed. The film's premise is that the future of humanity is in jeopardy.

The film offers hope and potential solutions to these problems by calling for restorative action by the reshaping and rethinking of global human activity through technology, social responsibility and conservation. Scientists and environmental advocates such as David Orr, David Suzuki, and Gloria Flora paint a portrait for a radically new and different future in which it is not humanity's intent to dominate the planet's life systems, but to mimic and coexist with them."

Well, if you asked me about my opinions about this documentary, i will say it is a very educational show on environmentalism. I have watched this show myself today and i say i have no regrets watching this show. I hope you guys can spread the word to other people to watch this documentary.

An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore

Official web site

An Inconvenient Truth focuses on Al Gore and his travels in support of his efforts to educate the public about the severity of the climate crisis. Gore says, "I've been trying to tell this story for a long time and I feel as I've failed to get the message across." The film nearly follows a Keynote presentation (dubbed "the slide show") that Gore presented throughout the world. It intersperses Gore's exploration of data and predictions regarding climate change and its potential for disaster with Gore's life story. It weaves in events that changed his worldview, including his college education with early climate expert Roger Revelle at Harvard University, his sister's death from lung cancer, and his young son's near-fatal car accident. Throughout the film, Gore makes comments regarding his loss to George W. Bush in the 2000 United States presidential election. For comic effect, Gore also uses a clip from the Futurama episode "Crimes of the Hot" to explain global warming. In the slide show Gore reviews the scientific opinion on climate change, discusses the politics and economics of global warming, and describes the consequences he believes global climate change will produce if the amount of human-generated greenhouse gases are not significantly reduced in the very near future. A centerpoint of the film is his examination of the annual temperature and CO2 levels for the past 650,000 years in Antarctic ice core samples. The film includes many segments intended to refute critics who say that global warming is unproven or that warming will be insignificant. For example, Gore discusses the possibility of the collapse of a major ice sheet in Greenland or in West Antarctica, either of which could raise global sea levels by approximately 20 feet (6m), flooding coastal areas and producing 100 million refugees. Melt water from Greenland, because of its lower salinity, could then halt the currents that keep northern Europe warm and quickly trigger dramatic local cooling there. The documentary ends with Gore arguing that if appropriate actions are taken soon, the effects of global warming can be successfully reversed by releasing less CO2 and planting more vegetation to consume existing CO2. Gore calls upon his viewers to learn how they can help him in these efforts. Gore's book of the same title was published concurrently with the theatrical release of the documentary. The book contains additional information, scientific analysis, and Gore's commentary on the issues presented in the documentary. A 2007 documentary entitled An Update with Former Vice President Al Gore features Gore discussing additional information that came to light after the film was completed, such as Hurricane Katrina, coral reef depletion, glacial earthquake activity on the Greenland ice sheet, wildfires, and trapped methane gas release associated with permafrost melting.
